Because she had difficulty finding Bible class material that was both doctrinally sound and also challenging, Barbara Hanna began writing teaching material for children. She first wrote three lesson books for grades 5 and 6.

When worshipping with a small congregation, where several classes had to be combined, she found it nearly impossible to find lessons that are simple enough for a first grader, but challenging for a fourth grader. Thus she began writing her own lessons for these ages. Although first graders can understand the teaching portion, many topics are included which will present new Bible facts to all grades studying in a combined class. Activities presented are either suitable for all ages, or (in most cases) two different versions of the same activity are provided. The teacher may duplicate either or both for her students. Older students spend more time looking up Bible passages, with questions to encourage further study for those who are more mature.
